Have you included future developments and what would you do differently?
I haven’t thought about future development for my first assignment as I achieved what I set out to accomplish. If I was to do my portrait task different I would lower the number of colours I did and then I would put more images into each section, however saying that I am overall pleased with this one. I would however have liked to print it out on a marge larger scale A3ish
One thing I would definitely do different would be my time management, as I spent ages on my first assignment and less time on the second task. I feel I could accomplish this if I made a plan, saying what I want done each week. This would mean I wouldn’t have a strict regimen to do certain things on set days, I could still work at my own pace but make sure I have at least accomplished something each week to further develop my ideas.
Anything I may alter would be the applications I used, maybe try a couple of different one, even if it was to play around and decide I didn’t like it for whatever reasons, it would help to learn new skills.
With my second project I would have liked a better basis for my idea, as it was quite simplistic and if I were to do it again along the drawing route, I would have maybe learnt to draw better or ask people to help me with the drawing aspect, as that is one thing I struggle with and I feel you are born with the ability to draw, you can’t learn it. So whilst I do try, it’s not something I’m natural at. If I were to add more to this one, I would make some more short films and make it like a mini-series. Exploring the couples adventure. :D
Have you considered and examined the merits and problems of the assignment?
I haven’t really thought about it as such, but I whilst doing the assignments I think of what will or won’t work. One of my main problems for my first assignment was that I didn’t know how to work Photoshop. I may have only done things on a basic level for some people, but for me it was really hard and at times I wanted to scrap it because I didn’t know how to do certain aspects but attempting to do it has been a huge advantage because now I am more confident with the process of using photo manipulation.
Another thing that was a trouble for me was the blog; it’s not something that I am used to doing, at times I did forget about in the beginning as I wasn’t used to blogging my process. I think towards the end I got better at it but still not perfect, if I was doing a blog again I would like to think I would update it a bit more.
Another trouble I had within this unit was narrowing down my ideas and actually sticking to them. I’m quite creative and like to do lots of things so trying to stick to one idea was a bit of trouble but I think this was good skill to learn from this project as my work, wasn’t too bad. I hope.
My confidence behind the camera was a huge advantage In both tasks as all the photos were my own for my self-portrait and I think if I didn’t like photography I wouldn’t have been able to capture the images to include into my work. This skill was handy in the second task as well as I had to capture all my frames for the stop motion, I only had access to a basic moviemaking tool which isn’t all that important to me because I’m proud of what I came up with. My drawings aren’t great, but I’m not an artist so that’s not a huge problem to me, it was my first attempt at doing this style, so the fact I accomplished it was good. However next time I may get people who are good at drawing to make it look more professional as you can tell it is an amateur project.
Have you described the assignment clearly and concisely?
For my first assignment, I feel that I did describe my idea clearly and concisely, I think if I had wanted to go into more detail I could have perhaps explained each image I used and a little bit about them. At the beginning of this project I knew exactly what I wanted, I just had no idea how I would lay it out, as I had lots of idea so it was quite vague to begin with until I had decided on exactly how I wanted it to look. I decided on my idea quite early on, but in class we did lots of different tasks to give us inspiration as to what we may like to do and personally this was off putting to me, because I would then stop with my idea and think maybe I should do this idea instead. I think I was clear with my idea but at times I do struggle to put ‘pen to paper’, so while I understand exactly what I’m going to do, other people may only have an idea of what I’m doing, however I feel like I explained enough that my idea was easy to follow. Each item or picture was either scanned or captured by me and all have personal meanings, so while you can’t see my face, the final product is still me.
My first project was a huge task for me to take on as I had to do quite a bit for it so my second project was a bit neglected and was another mammoth task for me As well as this I kept changing my mind for what I wanted my final assignment to look like. First I was thinking along the line of someone baking a cake or making a bed, but I wasn’t very passionate about this idea, so instead I decided to draw my own images and focus on the growth of a plant. However once i completed this, i thought it was qutie simple and adjusted the idea to involve a bit of romance. I did this because a) i wanted something a bit longer and b) i wanted more of a story for my animation.
So this is my final peice.
When i did my practice take, i noticed it did look amateur, so i thought i’d use this to my advantage. I based the styling of this as if it were a scrap book almost. I am pleased with this as i had never dont stop motion before.
Plan
Originally i was going to a computer drawn image to help clarify my idea, however i added inter-titles to help the narrative of the story.
This is how i semi-want my project to look like…i did this by myself. It’s not brilliant but it was my first attempt and doing it. I like both this look and the hand drawn look, but i think i may do the hand drawn one, but use computer pictures to help better illustrate what i want but do hand drawn as my final mixed media. As it involves, photography and then editing.
I think that i’ll add a bit of a story to it as this is quite dull. I’m thinking a boy meets girl type as i like romance. But i’ll set it in the same scene and styling :)…wish me luck
This is my basic idea for my stop motion…i’m not sure if i will hand draw it or whether to do a paint style animation.
Slight change of plan with the second task, i still want to do stop motion, but instead i want to do a more hand drawn style one.
